NRESi Colloquium: A biomass strategy to maximize climate benefit: Lessons from research to industry. Dr. Geoff de Ruiter, BC Biocarbon
We live in a province with large quantities of available biomass. What we currently do with that biomass widely ranges, and can be climate damaging to climate benefiting. BC has an opportunity to become a global leader in biomass utilization for the benefit of the climate, but it will take a lateral shift in thinking from biomass as an explicit energy resource to a bio-carbon resource. When biomass becomes a carbon resource first, its path to climate benefit becomes far more clear. It's time to start seeing the forest through the trees. Through this presentation, Geoff will present a brief background of his doctoral research, current postdoc research, and the lessons on the future of biomass bio-carbon he's distilled through his research and work in the private sector.
Please note that Dr. de Ruiter will be presenting remotely.
The Natural Resources & Environmental Studies Institute (NRESi) at UNBC hosts a weekly lecture series at the Prince George campus. Anyone from the university or wider community with interest in the topic area is welcome to attend. Go to http://www.unbc.ca/nres-institute/colloquium-webcasts to view the presentation remotely.
Past NRESi colloquium presentations and special lectures can be viewed on our video archive, available here.
Please Note: NRESi colloquium presentations this semester will be available to attend both in-person as well as online. However, those wishing to attend in-person must wear a mask as per Provincial Health Officer (PHO) orders and University policy. Thank you for your understanding.
