Although there are many under-studied systems throughout the world, it is important to know what to do with data once you collect it. We collect environmental data to monitor ecosystems and make informed management decisions given particular objectives. But what does that mean? I suggest there are three main strategies for making science-based decisions: (1) integrate prior information (including Traditional Ecological Knowledge) wherever possible; (2) communicating model outcomes in decision analysis; (3) adaptive management. In this talk, I will discuss and demonstrate the first two of these strategies and how they are informing management decisions on a variety of case studies across BC.

The Natural Resources & Environmental Studies Institute (NRESi) at UNBC hosts a weekly lecture series at the Prince George campus. Anyone from the university or wider community with interest in the topic area is welcome to attend.
