NRESi/PICS Joint Colloquium: Smart Growth, Smart City: practical land use tools to build better communities, better economies, and a better climate. Alex Boston, Renewable Cities
Land use planning is amongst the top determinants of a community’s carbon and energy profile. Land use planning is also local governments’ primary area of authority and influence. This presentation will share practical tools local governments can deploy to drive carbon and energy management in transportation and housing and enable district energy. These practical strategies are supported by illustrative maps, charts, drawings and quantitative analysis documenting their contribution to affordability, civic infrastructure cost management, tax burden management, mobility and public health. These insights emerge from working with a score of communities with high implementation success, and award-winning energy plans in small towns, booming suburbs, and big cities.
The Natural Resources & Environmental Studies Institute (NRESi) at UNBC hosts a weekly lecture series at the Prince George campus. Anyone from the university or wider community with interest in the topic area is welcome to attend. Presentations are also made available to remote participants through Livestream (Channel 1).
