NRESi Colloquium: Landscape Scale Dynamics of Fishers, Fish and Policy: Experiments, Data and Models of British Columbia’s Recreational Fisheries. Dr. John Post - University of Calgary
British Columbia has a rich diversity of recreational fisheries spread across a broad landscape of streams, rivers and lakes which are accessed by local and tourist fishers using a complex transportation network. Management agencies use a combination of regulations and stocking to provide fishing opportunities and conserve stocks. In this presentation I will discuss research involving the development and application of an adaptive experimental management approach to sustain BC’s recreational fisheries. The work involves experiments, human dimensions surveys and development of a social-ecological systems approach to understand the dynamics of the fishery and to assess alternate management approaches.
The Natural Resources & Environmental Studies Institute (NRESi) at UNBC hosts a weekly lecture series at the Prince George campus. Anyone from the university or wider community with interest in the topic area is welcome to attend. Presentations are also made available to remote participants through Livestream (Channel 1). Go to http://www.unbc.ca/nres-institute/colloquium-webcasts to view the presentation remotely.
