ABSTRACT:  The Danish Welfare State is internationally renowned for its universalism, low income inequality and (to some) surprising economic dynamics and competitiveness - yet internally it is the subject of intense debates, critique and reform. In this lecture I will give an outline of the institutional characteristics and the history of the Danish Welfare State, and I will discuss both current challenges and different political strategies in the light of a globalized economy and increasing cultural diversity
