Description

The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the School of Education at the rank of Assistant Professor, with proposed starting date of January 1, 2025. As an institution committed to the fostering of an inclusive and transformative learning environment, UNBC values high quality and growth in both teaching and scholarship. The School of Education is looking for a candidate with a background in K-12 teacher education, with preference given to candidates with a background in secondary years (grades 8-12) humanities and/or social sciences subjects. The ideal candidate will hold or is eligible to hold B.C. Teacher Certification. The signature pedagogy of the UNBC School of Education is ‘People, Place, and Land’, and the ideal candidate will have a teaching and research portfolio which aligns with this vision.

The successful candidate will show clear evidence of, or potential for, research productivity. The ideal candidate will have a record of post-secondary teaching excellence, familiarity or experience in K-12 education, teaching, and learning, and evidence of positive service to the place of employment and the greater community. The successful candidate will teach, research, and serve in the B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs, including the potential for service assignments that benefit the advancement of these programs. Experience teaching in a videoconference or other online/virtual environments will be considered a benefit. The candidate must be willing to supervise graduate students, as well as contribute to program administration, as assigned by the Chair of the School of Education. Cross-cultural and northern experience, including working with Aboriginal and Indigenous communities, will be considered essential.

Applicants for this position should hold a doctorate degree in Education or a related discipline, and have a growing record of scholarly activity, as well as present evidence of and commitment to teaching and service excellence. This position will be situated at the Main Campus in Prince George, B.C., however at times travel to other campuses may be required for course delivery.
