The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a sessional instructor position in the School of Nursing for the September 2024 semester. This posting covers undergraduate courses in need of instruction from the Terrace Campus.

Candidates with a minimum BScN, MScN, or PhD preferred are encouraged to apply. Current registration as a Practicing RN with the BCCNM is required for all clinical positions and preferred for all other positions.

NURS 323 – Theory & Practice: Older Adult | NURS 453 – Nursing Practice with Older Persons (Cross-Listed)

Note: This course is scheduled to be taught online as a cross-listed course.

NURS 323: This course takes a women-and family-centred, strengths-based approach to caring for individuals and families of diverse and multicultural backgrounds in the childbearing experience. Emphasis is placed on the integration and application of evidence-based theory, standards for nursing practice, effective communication, critical thinking and use of the nursing process to optimally prepare nurses as caregivers and collaborators with childbearing women, neonates, families, and the health care team.

NURS 453: This course focuses on health-promoting, person-centred practice for nurses working with older persons in rural communities. Assessment focuses on the physical and mental health of older persons within the context of their everyday experience and their families and/or cultures. Particular attention is paid to the strengths of the individual as well as the presenting health challenges. Nurses explore strategies to prevent and/or address common health issues experienced by older persons.

NURS 323 – Theory & Practice: Older Adult 

Clinical Instructor – up to two positions

This course focuses on health-promoting, person-centred nursing practice with older persons in rural communities. Assessment focuses on the physical and mental health of older persons within the context of their everyday experience and their families and/or cultures. Students have an opportunity to extend knowledge, skills and the application of therapeutic approaches with this population in the community and clinical settings.

NURS 323 – Theory & Practice: Mental Health 

Clinical Instructor – up to two positions

This course provides knowledge and skills required to care for people living with common mental health and addiction issues encountered in rural nursing practice. A holistic, relational nursing focus allows students to apply concepts to a variety of health challenges and to intervene appropriately. Students have an opportunity to further develop mental health nursing knowledge and skills in the clinical setting.

NURS 328 – Nursing Laboratory 

Laboratory Facilitator – up to two positions

This course provides instruction and practice in the psychomotor and critical thinking skills necessary to provide safe and effective nursing care in the clinical environment. Through case-based scenarios, simulation, short assignments, quizzes, videos and hands-on practice, students engage with and apply new knowledge and skills that build on learning from Years 1 and 2 of the curriculum.
