An Emmy Award-winning, classically trained actor, who has appeared in countless dramatic works from Brideshead Revisited to the American soap opera Another World, will be the keynote speaker next month at a fundraising event in support of the Northern Medical Programs Trust.
Charles Keating will address the 6th Annual Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture and Dinner, an event that highlights major health issues and celebrates health services in the North. Mr. Keating will present “I and I: The Sense of Self,” a one-man show reflecting on aging and wisdom.
“Throughout his more than 40-year career on stages and screens around the world, Charles Keating has brought vivid life to characters from the works of Shakespeare to the novels of Evelyn Waugh,” says organizer Dr. Bert Kelly. “We feel very privileged to have such a distinguished speaker address our event.”
The inaugural Ewert lecture was held in 2004. Each year the event features a lecture as well as inductions into the Northern Medical Society Hall of Fame. There will be three inductees this year: Dr. George Magee of Burns Lake, Dr. Geoff Cowburn of McBride, and the late Dr. Joe Sidorov of Prince George.
The Northern Medical Programs Trust is a partnership involving more than two-dozen local governments and UNBC for the purposes of supporting the education and retention of health professionals in northern communities. To date, about $6 million has been invested in the Trust.
The Ewert Lecture and Dinner will be held on April 10 at the Prince George Civic Centre. Tickets are $100 each and are available from the Office of External Relations at UNBC – 250.960.5750. Attendees also have the option of purchasing entire tables of ten. Proceeds will support the Northern Medical Programs Trust and the Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture Endowment, which is held by the Prince George Community Foundation.
The Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture and Dinner is presented by the Northern Medical Society, the Prince George Community Foundation, and UNBC. Reception at 5:30. Dinner at 6:30. Lecture to follow.
Dr. Bert Kelly will be available for media calls from 3PM to 5PM on Thursday, March 18, 2010.
