The University of Northern British Columbia is celebrating the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games with a Winter Carnival. Organized by the Northern Undergraduate Student Society, the Winter Carnival will be the afternoon of Friday February 12, and include hay rides, live entertainment, winter treats, and a variety of competitions. The event is open to all UNBC faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Following the carnival, participants will gather to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony Celebration in the Northern University Student Centre (NUSC). Beginning at 5:30pm, this event will include complimentary food, custom UNBC mittens, as well as live coverage of the Ceremony being held at BC Place in Vancouver.
“The NUSC is a Vancouver 2010 Live Site, which means the Government of BC provided a grant for its construction,” says NUGSS president, Lindsay Gardner. “This is an opportunity to bring the UNBC community together to celebrate winter and watch as Vancouver welcomes the world.” Schedule of Events: 3:00 - 5:00 Horse Drawn Hay Rides (every 20 minutes) 3:00 - 5:00 Performances by Judy Russell's Hip Hop Dancers 3:00 - 5:00 Paint your vision of the Vancouver 2010 Games 3:00 - 5:00 Snowman Building Competition 3:00 - 6:00 Ice Skating @ UNBC’s Outdoor Ice Rink. 3:30 - 5:00 Crazy Carpet Races 3:30 - Winter Relay 4:00 - 5:30 UNBC Scavenger Hunt 5:15 - Snowman Judging 5:30 - Olympic Celebration Welcome (free food & UNBC mittens) 6:00 - Live Coverage of Opening Ceremony starts
