UNBC Board to Host Public Meetings in Terrace and Kitimat
September 15, 2009
The Board of Governors for the University of Northern British Columbia will be hosting public meetings in Terrace and Kitimat later this week.
Friday, September 18, 2pm, Kitimat Valley Institute
Members of the Board will be in Kitimat for discussions with local residents about how the University can effectively respond to local needs for education and research. To that end, the University will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kitimat Valley Institute to coordinate the delivery of post-secondary educational opportunities. The KVI provides post-secondary education in Haisla territory and delivers adult education for Haisla and other clients in northwestern BC. UNBC will also be recognizing Rio Tinto Alcan at the meeting for its latest contribution towards a $500,000 pledge to the Northern Medical Programs Trust.
Saturday, September 19, 8am, UNBC Terrace Campus, 4837 Keith Avenue
The public meeting of the Board will include an update on enrolment, a report on University construction projects (such as the implementation of a bioenergy program on the Prince George campus), and a report from new President George Iwama on major activities and new initiatives at UNBC. The public meeting is estimated to end by 10am.
The UNBC Board of Governors is responsible for the administrative and financial operations of the University. It meets regularly throughout the year and has at least one meeting per year in a northern BC community other than Prince George. The Board is currently chaired by Dawn Martin of Terrace.
