The UNBC Northern Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams willplay their first home games in more than two months this Saturday whenthey host UBC Okanagan at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.
“So far this season we’ve been drawing up to 1500 fans to our homegames, the highest number in our league and on par with the attendanceat other Canadian university basketball games. Our fans have provided ahuge boost to both of our teams when we’re playing at home,” says LenMcNamara, Athletics and Recreation Director for UNBC. “It has been adream come true for many of us to have a facility like this and we’recontinuing to add features and promotions that will make our home gamesa terrific experience for all of our fans.”
New this weekend:
• Play-by-play will be streamed – LIVE – from theUniversity website. To listen during game times, click the “listenlive” icon on the Timberwolves’ website: www.unbc.ca/athletics.
• UNBC students attending home games will have thechance to win free tuition up to $1500. For the remainder of theseason, students will have the opportunity enter their student numbersat home games for the chance to win the tuition credit. The winningstudent number will be drawn on the final home game of the season(February 9).
• The Northern Undergraduate Student Society will begiving away a $250 Bookstore gift certificate during a half-timecontest.
• The women’s team is adding 3rd year player Theresa Smith of Valemount to the roster as a post.
• The corporate sponsor for Saturday’s games will be Elly Johnsen of Investors Group.
Following the games tomorrow, the season will have reached the mid-waypoint. Currently, the UNBC women’s team has a record of four wins andthree losses. The men are 2-5.
The women’s game starts on Saturday night at 6pm. The men’s game willfollow at 8pm. Tickets are available at the game: adult tickets are $5each, students and seniors pay $3, and a child ticket is $2.
