Spectra Energy Awards Aboriginal Bursaries

The media is invited to attend the University of Northern BritishColumbia campus on Monday, September 24, when ten Aboriginal UNBCstudents will each receive $2,500 bursaries from Spectra EnergyTransmission. The new student awards mark the company’s 50th year ofoperations in British Columbia.
“Operating in BC for fifty years, Spectra Energy has deep roots in thisprovince and we share long-standing relationships with its Aboriginalcommunities,” says Steve Henderson, Manager, Community and AboriginalRelations for Spectra Energy. “UNBC has been a valued communityoutreach partner for Spectra Energy since the university’s earliestdays. We see these bursaries as providing tangible and meaningfulopportunities to support Aboriginal students in the pursuit of theireducational goals.”
More than 10% of UNBC’s students are Aboriginal, the highest proportion of any university in British Columbia.
Spectra Energy, with more than 1,000 employees in Western Canada, isone of North America’s premier natural gas infrastructure companiesinvolved in the gathering and processing, transmission and storage, anddistribution of natural gas. Spectra Energy’s operations include assetsthat were originally known as Westcoast Transmission. The company hasmore than 7,000 kilometres of pipeline and five processing facilitiesin BC.
