Northern Trust Recognized for $4.2 Million Investment

June 20, 2007
The members of the Northern Development Initiative Trust Board of Directors have had their first tour of the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre site since investing more than $4 million in the project.

The $4.2 million investment has two components:
•    a $3 million interest-free loan that will be repaid over five years by the City of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George
•    a $1.2 million grant from the Northern Trust’s cross-regional program that represents the collective support in the project from the 40 communities located in the Northern Trust’s area.

“I know that I speak on behalf of my colleagues on the Board when I say – WOW – what an impressive asset this will be for the whole region,” says Bruce Sutherland, Chair of the Northern Trust Board. “I’ve heard much about the Sport Centre but it did nothing to prepare me for seeing it in real life. It’s a joy for the Northern Trust to be involved in projects such as this.”

“Quite simply, we wouldn’t be where we are today with the Northern Sport Centre without the support of organizations such as the Northern Trust,” says Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley. “Thank you to all of the Trust communities for their support and we look forward to seeing residents from throughout the region at the opening ceremony on September 21,” adds UNBC President, Don Cozzetto.

The Northern Trust’s investment was originally announced in May, 2006.
