UNBC Vice-president Academic & Provost Appointed To Second Term

The Board of Governors for the University of Northern of Northern British Columbia has appointed Dr Deborah Poff to a second term as Vice-President Academic and Provost. Her re-appointment received the unanimous endorsement both of the Board and of the selection committee.
The Board confirmed Dr Poff's request for a three-year term, effective July 1, 2001. By the end of her new appointment, Dr Poff will have served the equivalent of two, five-year terms as Vice-President Academic and Provost.
"I look forward to Dr Poff's continued leadership of the academic operations of the University," says UNBC President Dr Charles Jago. "We are looking to expand our programming in the future to include a bachelor's degree program in Teacher Education and an expansion of medical education in the North."
Dr Poff first came to UNBC in 1993 as Dean of Arts and Science and was promoted to Acting Vice-President Academic in 1995. She was appointed to the position of Vice-President Academic in 1996. Dr Poff has written numerous articles on ethics, violence, sexuality, feminism, global economic development, environmental ethics, and justice issues. She co-founded and edits the Journal of Business Ethics and Teaching Business Ethics. She has a forthcoming book (with A. Michalos) with the University of Toronto Press and is currently working on a co-authored book on environmental ethics for Kluwer Publishers. Her involvement in provincial and national educational issues includes appointments to the Science Council of BC of which she is Vice-Chair, the BC Council on Admissions and Transfers, and the provincial Degree Program Review Committee, which she currently chairs.
