UNBC Offers Courses In Prince Rupert Courses On The Coast

The University of Northern British Columbia is expanding its spring course offerings in Prince Rupert to take advantage of its spectacular setting and the unique opportunities it provides as a teaching location. Five weeklong courses are being offered in the Courses on the Coast series, starting next week.

Local History/Methodology, May 8-12
This course will explore the history of Prince Rupert from the traditional cultures of the area's First Nations through to the 20th Century.

Human Geography of the Prince Rupert Region, May 8-12
This course surveys a range of human geography issues around the region and how the human landscape is a reflection of society, culture, and the local economy.

Global Resources, May 15-19
This International Studies course will focus on the balance between economic, environmental, and social interests in resource management, with a focus on Pacific Salmon.

Creative Writing About Place, May 15-19
In this class, students will discuss different strategies writers use to convey a sense of place, and apply those strategies to the students' own short story, play, or novel chapter.

Arts and Material Culture of BC First Nations, May 22-26
This course is an overview of Northwest Coast First Nations art and provide students with the knowledge to interpret the styles of different First Nations.

All classes will be taught at the North Pacific Cannery Museum
