Architect Selected For Laboratory Expansion

May 2, 2000 For Immediate Release

Chernoff Thompson Architects of Vancouver has been selected to design the $12 million laboratory expansion at the University of Northern British Columbia's Prince George campus. Twelve companies submitted proposals; four companies were short-listed and three were interviewed.

The contract will include the schematic design; structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering; and construction administration. The laboratory expansion will be 5900 square metres and consist of an expanded GIS lab, offices for science faculty, and instructional labs. It's scheduled for completion in 2002. The contract also includes blueprints for the renovation of 630 square metres in the existing lab building.

Chernoff Thompson was one of the architectural firms involved in the original design of the Prince George campus, and since then, has maintained a local presence. For the last three years, Chernoff Thompson has operated an office in Prince George. The design process will start on May 10th, when Chernoff Thompson representatives visit UNBC to meet with faculty, laboratory users, and administration.
