Architectural Proposals Being Sought For New Laboratory Expansion

March 16, 2000 For Immediate Release

The University of Northern British Columbia has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to architects concerning the new laboratory expansion on the Prince George campus. Architects are being asked to respond to the RFP by March 31st. It's expected that the successful architect will be appointed by May 1st.

The $12 million laboratory expansion was announced by former Advanced Education Minister Andrew Petter in January. The new facility will include new teaching labs, an expanded GIS lab for advancing technologies in satellite mapping, offices for science faculty, chemical storage, and instructional areas. The lab expansion will be built adjacent to the existing laboratory at the north end of the campus.

The popularity of science programs and the large number of research projects have both contributed to the need for additional laboratory space at UNBC. It's expected the new facility will be ready for use in the fall of 2002.
