Bruce Strachan To Be Named
Friend Of The University

The University of Northern British Columbia will recognize Bruce Strachan as a Friend of the University at the 2000 Convocation Ceremony on May 26th.
Mr Strachan was the BC Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology when the Act creating UNBC was passed by the Provincial Legislature in 1990. He also approved the $137 million budget to build the University's Prince George campus. In January 1988, as Minister of State for the Cariboo, he secured $100,000 for the initial university feasibility study. He was MLA for Prince George South from 1979 to 1991, and held a variety of positions in government, including Minister of Environment and Government House Leader. He is also a former Chair of the Prince George Board of School Trustees.
Mr Strachan is currently a commentator on CJCI radio in Prince George and is a member of Prince George City Council.
The award - Friend of the University - is awarded at Convocation ceremonies to individuals who have given of themselves to create, promote, or foster the development of the University of Northern British Columbia.
Two honorary degrees will also be awarded at the 2000 Convocation Ceremony, to Nisga'a Chief Joseph Gosnell and UNBC Founder Horst Sander.
