UNBC And Cupe Reach Settlement

January 31, 2000 For Immediate Release

The University of Northern British Columbia and CUPE Local 3799 have reached an agreement at the provincial accord process. As a result, pickets have come down at the University's Prince George campus.

The approval of the accord agreement was a necessary condition for securing local agreements at each of the universities involved in CUPE negotiations. The UNBC local agreement was concluded on Sunday, January 30th.

"I commend all negotiators from UNBC, both those representing the University and those representing CUPE, for their efforts in concluding this agreement," says UNBC Charles Jago.

The agreement is for three years and is due to expire in March 2002. The major items in the accord relate to pay equity and benefits. Further details will be provided upon ratification.
