The entire UNBC community is extremely saddened at news that an RCMP search of the University grounds has discovered the body of a woman who matches the description of Anna Sorkomova. While the investigation continues, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST FOUL PLAY.
Police expect to confirm the identity on Monday and efforts continue to notify Anna's family in Russia.
Anna was a Russian exchange student from Yakutsk State University. She was registered at UNBC during the Fall semester and was scheduled to return home in mid-December. While attending UNBC, Anna lived in residence. All residence students are being informed this evening (Sunday) of the results of the RCMP search and UNBC counsellors are in residence tonight to provide support to residents.

An information session is planned for all members of the UNBC community at noon Monday, January 24, in the Canfor Theatre.
UNBC President Charles Jago has contacted Yakutsk State University, and the University is continuing to contact faculty, international students, and others who were close to Anna.
Once the RCMP confirm the identity of the woman found today, the University will be arranging for a memorial service on campus. Further information on the memorial service will be available later.
