What inspired you to pursue your program?

After playing baseball at national, international and collegiate levels I became intrigued by sports science, performance, and medicine. Once I transferred to the University of Victoria and completed a degree in kinesiology, I recognized that a career in physiotherapy suited my lived experiences, interests and personal disposition. I’ve always considered myself a people person; physiotherapy offered the unique combination of helping and interacting with others, while also allowing me to pursue my personal interests of human movement and wellness. 

Why did you choose UBC/ the Master of Physical Therapy - North (MPT-N)?

Completing my physiotherapy degree in the UBC MPT-N cohort offered the unique opportunity to complete additional placements in both northern and rural communities. I viewed this as a chance to support communities within BC who are currently experiencing healthcare inequities, while simultaneously providing invaluable experiences that will aid in my personal and professional growth. After spending much of my life on Vancouver Island, I am excited to explore BC and gain new experiences through the MPT-N program. 

If you could travel anywhere in B.C. where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere within BC I would go to Haida Gwaii. The combination of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and rich culture make it an ideal location for me. Haida Gwaii shares many commonalities with my home of Vancouver Island, but also has many unique aspects as well. Travelling to Haida Gwaii on placement would inform me on how physiotherapy can be delivered within rural/remote communities. Overall, this would be a dream for me and I hope it can come true at some point throughout my degree.
