Biography

Dr. Wan obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 2014, with a B.A.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics and M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of British Columbia. Before arriving at UNBC, he was a post-doctoral fellow from 2014 to 2018 at McGill University and at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques.

His research interests are in the development and rigorous analysis of numerical methods for problems arising in applied mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering. His primary research area is on the study and construction of structure-preserving discretizations for ordinary and partial differential equations. Specifically, his main research is currently on general constructions of conservative methods for differential equations with geometric invariants and on the study of the long-term stability of conservative methods.

He is also interested in scientific computing and adaptive methods. In particular, he is interested in the development of adaptive finite element methods for multi-scale problems and in the analysis of a posteriori error estimation for such methods.
