Biography

Nick has a great deal of experience in the area of cognitive psychology with an emphasis on computational methods to understand language, concepts, and memory. Nick graduated from Western University where he completed research to better understand how language, including complex language such as metaphors and idioms is represented in memory. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Manitoba. During his postdoc, he developed a computational model of memory, that integrates semantic memory and episodic memory. This model successfully accounts for human memory across a variety of tasks, including memory for single words, sentences containing similar ideas, and figurative expressions with similar metaphorical themes. Currently, Nick is exploring how people remember images and scenes and collaborates with researchers overseas to explore cross-cultural and cross-language differences in concepts, perception, and language processing.
