Timberwolves tie Heat in season opener

Tanya Grob vs UBCO

Prince George, BC - The UNBC Timberwolves women's soccer team opened their 2014 regular season against the UBC Okanagan Heat at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League fields on Saturday afternoon. The teams finished in a 0-0 tie.

Even though neither team was able to capitalize they were not void of opportunities. In the second half the Timberwolves midfield pushed the ball back behind the Heat's back line, setting forward Sydney Hall (Prince George, BC) up for multiple scoring opportunities. Late in the second half it looked like Hall was going to be able to break the tie. As the Heat keeper came out to challenge and attack by Sidney Roy (Burnaby, BC), Roy played the ball laterally to Hall but her shot sailed inches to the right of the post.

The UBC Okanagan Heat, who made their Canada West soccer debut on Saturday, showed their were not to be to taken lightly. The Heat outshot the Timberwolves 23-7 throughout the game. Rookie midfielder Susan Traynor (Calgary, AB) played well off fourth year forward Kirsten Dodds (Vernon, BC). The duo was able to keep Timberwolves keeper Jordan Hall (Prince George, BC) under pressure for 90 minutes.

At the end of regulation time the UBC Okanagan Heat and the UNBC Timberwolves finished their first regular season game with a 0-0 tie. Both teams will return tomorrow for a rematch, kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
