“Repatriation of Cultural Artifacts and the Stories We Tell: Creating Relevance through Narrative”

Through the Nisga’a Final Agreement process 364 cultural artifacts were returned to Nisga’a Nation. In 2011 the Nisga’a Museum opened its doors with its signature collection on display: the Ancestors’ Collection. Creating opportunities for engagement, learning and greater cultural understanding is at the core of institutions mandate. But how do we do that in a society that is “plugged in” almost 24/7? What role(s) does the museum have in community development and building visual arts literacy and capacity?
